Proclus. Arab Philosophy. Book of the causes. Falāsifa.Abstract
Characterized by the search for knowledge and the attempt to harmonize Philosophy and Religion, the philosophers of falsafa were strongly influenced by Greek thought. They contributed, with their translations, comments and interpretative readings to the conservation of Greek philosophy and to its reinterpretation in the Latin world. Therefore, in this work, we present an examination of how Proclu’s philosophical theses were received and incorporated by falāsifa. So, it begins with an exposition of the way in which Greek thought reached the Arabs emphasizing, specifically, the Proclean writings. Then, the presence of Byzantine arguments among Arab philosophers is analyzed, highlighting the characteristics they acquired and how they were incorporated considering the purpose of adapting to the Islamic context. Thus, the objective is to demonstrate the particularities of the presence of Proclean philosophy among the Arabs and how this enabled to the recovery of Proclu’s thought in the Latin world.References
